A lecture delivered nearly two years ago by Beijing-based academic Jiang Xueqin has resurfaced online<\/a> and is now spreading rapidly across social media. The renewed attention comes after two of the professor\u2019s earlier predictions \u2014 including the possibility of a US\u2013Iran conflict \u2014 appeared to gain relevance amid rising geopolitical tensions.<\/p>\n

Jiang, a Yale-educated philosophy and history professor, presented the predictions during a May 2024 lecture in which he outlined three major forecasts about global politics. His analysis is based on a framework he calls \u201cPredictive History,\u201d a method that studies historical patterns, geopolitical incentives and game theory to anticipate future developments.<\/p>\n

The professor, who teaches in Beijing, also runs a popular YouTube channel titled Predictive History, which has more than 1.5 million subscribers. His analytical approach draws inspiration from science-fiction writer Isaac Asimov\u2019s concept of \u201cpsychohistory,\u201d a fictional discipline that uses historical data and mathematics to forecast large-scale societal trends.<\/p>\n

Prediction on US-Iran war
\n<\/strong>In the viral lecture, Jiang made three key predictions. The first was that Donald Trump would stage a political comeback and return to power in the United States. His second forecast warned that a second Trump presidency could trigger a major confrontation between the US and Iran.<\/p>\n

As geopolitical tensions in West Asia escalate, many online users have revisited the lecture, noting that Jiang had already warned about the possibility of a US-Iran war.<\/p>\n

The chilling third prediction
\n<\/strong>What has drawn even greater attention, however, is Jiang\u2019s third and most alarming forecast. He argued that if a full-scale conflict breaks out, the United States could eventually lose a prolonged war with Iran.<\/p>\n

To explain his reasoning, Jiang pointed to historical parallels, comparing a potential US campaign in Iran with the Sicilian Expedition, an ambitious Athenian military operation during the Peloponnesian War that ended in disaster.<\/p>\n

According to Jiang, Iran\u2019s mountainous terrain, vast geography and large population could make any long-term military occupation extremely difficult for foreign forces. These conditions could allow the country to sustain resistance over an extended period.<\/p>\n

A war of attrition
\n<\/strong>Speaking in a later appearance on the US news programme Breaking Points, Jiang said Iran has been preparing for such a confrontation for nearly two decades.<\/p>\n

He suggested the conflict could evolve into a war of attrition, with Iran and allied groups such as the Houthis, Hezbollah and Hamas relying on endurance rather than quick battlefield victories. Jiang believes these groups have spent years analysing American and Israeli military tactics through previous regional confrontations.<\/p>\n

According to his analysis, the strategy would be aimed at gradually exhausting and weakening US power over time, rather than securing an immediate victory.<\/p>\n

Why he is being called \u2018China\u2019s Nostradamus\u2019
\n<\/strong>Jiang\u2019s predictions are based on historical analysis and strategic modelling, not supernatural prophecy. However, the apparent relevance of his earlier forecasts has prompted many internet users to nickname him \u201cChina\u2019s Nostradamus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The resurfaced lecture has sparked widespread debate online about the future of US-Iran relations and the broader implications for global geopolitics.<\/p>\n

While Jiang\u2019s final prediction remains speculative, the viral video has captured global attention at a time when tensions in the region continue to rise \u2014 raising questions about whether history could once again shape the course of modern conflicts.<\/p>\n
